Manuscript Critiquing

Manuscript critiquing is a more general overview of a manuscript than developmental editing but also focuses on the big-picture elements of novel writing.

My manuscript critique includes an editorial report that

  • discusses what’s working in your manuscript and what’s not

  • suggests ways you can tighten your manuscript

  • provides insight into fiction theory and genre expectations

I do not include in-text comments.

My manuscript critique is not:

  • ghostwriting

  • line editing

  • copy editing

  • proofreading

Manuscript critiquing is for you if:

  • You feel you need help with the big-picture elements of novel writing.

  • You’re not ready for a full developmental edit or you’ve significantly rewritten your manuscript after a developmental edit.

Manuscript critiquing may require rewriting. However, the contents of my editorial report are suggestions based on my research and knowledge. Ultimately, it’s your book, and you can choose which (if any) of my suggestions you accept.
