Historical fiction that tells the stories of women history tried to silence
Female victims are forgotten; female criminals are dehumanised. Neither are fair representations of women in the past.
History often portrays women as agencyless. But history didn’t just happen to them. They made choices. They loved. They fought.
They certainly didn’t wait for someone to come and rescue them. They were active participants in their lives.
Not villains. Not victims. People.
Their stories deserve to be told.

I believe we can learn so much about women’s lived experience by studying historical crime.
For example, I learned that where a woman wore her garters depended on her social status. Upper-class women wore them above the knee, while working-class women wore them below the knee. I found this out in a post-mortem report.
